Monrouby is a small village in the Languedoc, close to Pomérols, which is where we make the Baron de Badassière and the Vignes de L’Eglise wines. Marguerite Vasseur and Matt Thomson, who make these wines for us, decide to vinify several varietals separately due to the quality of fruit.
The vineyards are located on low-lying hills, where the Bassin de Thau (a string of lakes) moderates the climate. As there is little rain in the summer, the gentle breezes from the lakes and the Mediterranean Sea lower evaporation and, in turn, reduce vine stress.
This red, a blend of Syrah and Carignan, has good colour, a spiced red fruit character on the nose and supple tannins on the palate. It has remarkable character for a wine at this price.
